Spinning on a Spinning Wheel (Prerequisite - Spinning Fleece to Yarn) March 3, 2012, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm Cost $95 - Limited to 5 people
This workshop will allow you the opportunity to spin alpaca on a spinning wheel. You may bring your working spinning wheel or we will have a wheel for you to spin on during the class. Please note that you should have taken our Spinning Fleece to Yarn Workshop or have previous spinning experience.
You will create singles; then a two-ply yarn using alpaca fiber (included).

This hands-on workshop at the farms of Spirit Song Alpacas and Sunrise River Alpacas will offer the opportunity to learn about farm set up and fencing, basic alpaca handling, toenail trimming, injections and oral dosing. We plan to spend the day in the barns, so wear appropriate clothing and plan to get dirty. Lunch is included.
Spinning Fleece into Yarn Date TBD Cost $110 - Limited to 6 people
Learn the art of hand-spinning, from start to finish,
in the beautiful rural setting of Chisago County at the farms of Spirit
Song Alpacas and Sunrise River Alpacas. Betty Carlson and Peggy Pearson
will guide you through the process of skirting an alpaca fleece, washing
the fiber, carding, creating hands-pun yarn. You will learn the
fundamentals of spinning on a Navajo spindle (which is included in the
cost of registration and is yours to take home with you). By using a
spindle, you can focus your attention on the basics of spinning single
and two-ply yarns. There will also be opportunities to try your hand at a
spinning wheel if time allows. The emphasis of this class is preparing
fleece and creating yarn on the spindle. Lunch is included.
